Default Weird Window Auto-Up/Down Movement

I test drove a 2016 TT Coupe. When I got out of it the windows were up. But when closing the door & locking it, it seemed like the windows would close upwards slightly... or it sure sounded like it. I read in the manual (on about page 32?) that: "when you open the doors, the windows automatically lower approximately 10mm".

1. So is the window-type sound I heard when closing the car door the sound of the windows auto-closing by 10mm (since they auto-opened by 10mm)?

2. Why would the windows auto-open by 10mm anyway?

3. If the windows do auto-open by 10mm then wouldn't that possibly allow rain to enter (especially if it's pouring rain)?

Thanks,
Windy1138

To ensure proper seal, the system is programmed so that when the door is closed, the window closed, or seals, the passenger compartment.

Without this auto up/down, the door would not close properly against the seals.

all normal and good to go!

Yes, and to elaborate - by door closing with the window slightly open it allows the increased interior air pressure from the sudden closure to be released both easing wear and facilitating a better seal. More Audi smart automation engineering!

Since the Windows only auto-open when the door is open, there's a much bigger hole than the 10mm slit for rain to get in while the door is held open. The slit disappears as soon as the door is closed.

Also note that the if the window is down and the door is opened, the window rises a small amount, presumably to avoid excessive lateral glass movement when the door is being shut.

BTW, all TTs since the beginning (1999 in this country) have done the auto-open trick.

This is very common on vehicles these days when there is no full frame around the side glass that is attached to the door. BMW and MINI also do this as well as other manufacturers.

I just wish the window control buttons could a little more sensitive. Sometimes I just want to crack it open an inch, but the switch will either open it wide or close it completely. Same behaviour with the MK2.
My ancient Eurovan will override the close feature if you click it twice quickly.

The window buttons on my MK3 TTS do allow fine control of the window position. Clicking and releasing quickly moves the window just a fraction of an inch; holding and releasing after a small delay stops the motion at the point of release. My MK1 worked the same way, but the switches were a bit harder to operate due to the shape.

Well, I might have to have my TTs checked out when I go for the first oil change. The quick click seems to not be very sensitive.
