Default Winter Wheels

Tire Rack now has wheels listed for the MK3 TTS. I am leaning towards 18 inch BBS wheels with Michelin X ICE for my winter setup. Anyone have pics with snow shoes mounted? Cheers!

I will probably get X-Ice in 245/40/18. The shop near me has Nokian's and I would be interested to hear if anyone uses them and how they perform.

I like the 19" wheels I have on the car right now and there are a few similar winter compatible wheels available in 18". The shop near me has the R167s, I know.

This nice BBS looks very much like an OEM: BBS SX Bright Silver Paint

Michelin is also how I roll.

The rim choices on Tire Rack have different offsets. What is the correct or similar offset to our factory 19's?

Thanks for the heads up on this. Nice to see "official" tire options for our cars finally. I'm leaning towards Michelin Pilot Sports. Curious if they are still putting on Hankooks on the 2017 TTS's. Not happy about that, but oh well.

Also, has anyone found nice rims that don't require an offset?

This site has a listing for every model and market.

Audi TT 2016 - Wheel & Tire Sizes, PCD, Offset and Rims specs - Wheel-Size.com
Audi TTS 2016 - Wheel & Tire Sizes, PCD, Offset and Rims specs - Wheel-Size.com

I believe the typical sizes are

245/40/18 tire with 8.5/50 wheel
245/35/19 tire with 9.0/52 wheel
255/30/20 tire with 9.0/52 wheel

Thanks for replying. What is the benefit of going with 245/40 vs. 235/45? Looks like the 245/40 is a little cheaper. Anything else?

I got the DAI Replica R36 in Machined Face Gunmetal for my winters. The machined face isn't "winter safe" according to the manufacture but I put a hardened paint coating on them which should help protect them and I love the look of the machine face over the silver so I took the risk to run them in the winter (the slivers from DAI are suppose to be winter rated I was told).

I put 225/45 R18 Blizzak WS80 on them.

The thinner tire (in your case 235 vs 245) is suppose to give you better traction in the snow because it can cut down through the snow to the road better.

The 45 will give you more side wall so you don't feel the bumps as bad and there's more rubber between your rim and pot holes.

Typically if your 19" has a 40 wall when you go to 18" for winter you'll need to do a 45 wall so that your overall diameter remains the same.

Here's the tire calculator I used:
Rim & Tire Size Calculator. Custom Offsets - Wheel-Size.com

It's already setup for the stock 245/35 R19 on my TTS and shows the diffenerce to the winters I bought.

It is best to match OEM offset for the sake of the overall engineered suspension geometry, which is typically very conservative (high positive offset = tucked into wheel wells). But my winters are hand-me-down from A5/allroad and although almost flush with the outside of the fenders I had no issues last Winter.
However, as others have said you must ensure that the spokes clear the calipers, which on the TTS is a significant challenge. Even the 19" OEM "blade" design are very close clearances on the front.

Hey Iain - Today, I bought the same DAI 36 gunmetal wheels and 225/18 tires (only X-ice) for my white car, too. The tire store convinced me to mix it up a little and have gunmetal for the winter and silver for the summer.
