Default 12 Hour Clock

Just got my vag com and I am trying to sort things out on a US import 2003 S8 (chassis code 4D).

When the dealer installed DRL, they switched the instrument cluster display to kilometers and the clock now reads in 24 hour format.

I could not find any S8/A8 specific information but read posts on A4,A6 coding.

The current soft coding for the instrument cluster is 02383. Changing the third digit to a 4 will change the display from km to mi, and changing it to a 1 momentarily changed the clock to 12 hour format then it reverted to 24 hour mode.

Any ideas?

Where can I find a listing of what the coding values mean for the A8/S8? The Vag Wiki for these models is pretty sparse (nothing for intrument coding) or is this just a feature of vag com I havent discovered yet?

I am using a Hex USB and here is the Auto Scan

Hi guys

48 views and no replies.

I realize having a 12 hour clock is not a compelling issue but somebody must have an idea.

Regarding the coding, the only info I could find on the D2 S8 was by translating openbd.org with babelfish.

Clicking and right clicking on the actual coding for the instrument labels did not give me any info.

Any suggestions from the Vag Com guys ????

Default Until the coding is sorted out, ....

For clock times before Noon, just take the numerical value shown directly, IE 08:00 is 8:00 AM For times after noon, IE 15:00 just subtract 12 and add PM IE 15:00 -12 is 3:00 PM.

Reviewing the A8/6/4 instument lable files the country coding is fairly consistant, and afaik, is the only way to change the clock display format. Maybe you could email Sebastian at Ross Tech for advice?

Default Re: Until the coding is sorted out, ....

Thanks ...not to sound unappreciative but I do know how to read a 24 hour clock.

The thing that suprised me was the lack of instrument lable files for the A8 S8.

The files I found on opendb.org showed I was using the right country code but there was no mention of clock settings like there were for the A4 A6.

Maybe Audi believes all the Canadian A8 S8 owners want a 24 hour clock.

I will forward this to Sebastian for advice

Thanks

Default Yeah, I figured that, but just in case.... :>)

I have the same issue with the clock only in my case Audi believes everyone in the US must want 12 hour clock displays. I'm used to, and prefer 24 hour format. It is annoying the clock display format is not independently configurable. I can set coding to UK, for miles and 24 hour format, but then other unintended/undesired consequences result.

Default So I'm not the only one

with this issue.

I just wanted to make sure I was'nt missing something obvious. However it was weird that it did display in 12 hour format for about a minute before reverting to the 24 hr clock.

Default I don't know why the clock display format changed back like that. .....

I can suggest a possible theory why, the IC uses the VIN to automatically configure some of the specific IC characteristics according to equipment and options fitted, maybe that is involved with the clock display reverting back to 24 hrs format. Did the coding value revert back also, or stay as entered? If VIN based self learning is involved, I don't know how to override that right now. Maybe entering a different pseudo VIN? I do know that Sebastian is the authority to consult regarding this problem, hopefully he can help. (His skills are in high demand, and finding time is likely an issue, so if you inquire, it may take awhile for him to get to it, but he is very good with follow ups.)
