Actually a full Auto-Scan would be best in this specific case...

Any faults in any other modules? Could point to a wiring problem if no,

That's not a full Auto-Scan.

Default I had some controller non-respond errors (don't know what that means) when auto-scan...

I'm running 409.1 shareware and bought the USB cable on eBay if any help. VAG-COM is all new experience for me and so wanting to learn.

TIA.

The ABS and ASR warning lights take turns coming on if that's got anything to do with this.

Default If there are ABS lights flashing - Start there

If the ABS light is flashing start there. It sounds like your ABS cont. unit on the pump is bad. Easy to confirm. When the light is on try and get into ABS (03). If you get in it will likely have an inst. cluster info. code (forget the number). If you can't get in, try the ECM (01)and/or inst. cluster (17). If you can't get into either of these, go to your ABS pump/cont. module (left side engine comp. in front of brake booster)and disconnect the electrical connector (slide the lock bar back paralel to the harness, pull connecter off). Now try and get into 01 or 17 again. If now you can get in, the ABS control unit on the pump is bad. It is available seperatly of the pump. They go out quite often.

If this is not the case, I would check the elect. connector @ the trans, clear the codes and see if it returns.

BTW - your engine is a 2.8, not a 2.4
