Using the proper procedure, at the jump points per the manual ?
If an Audi is improperly jump started a lot of modules can get fried.

Does the CAN gateway installed list match the modules in the vehicle?
May also want to do an optical diagnostic - that usually makes it easier to pinpoint bad modules.
Post up a complete scan and optical diag, maybe we can figure out more from there.

Yes, there is an installation list on the gateway that shows which modules it thinks it has.


Generally yes, but you can also reverse engineer the list based on the PR code (build) sticker - usually in the spare tire well, in the book sometimes, or other places.


If you have someone scan it make sure to get a copy of the Auto-Scan text file, have them clear all DTC's, and go from there.
Some of the less expensive cables work with VCDS Lite but ultimately it's an exercise in frustration and/or they have very limited functionality.
If you have friends/family with or other VAG (non Porsche) vehicles these things pay for themselves.
I don't do much of my own work anymore, but Audi charges me $135/hr for diagnostics which adds up fast
A good factory repair manual such as Bentley or erWin is another great investment if you plan to do any DIY.

The HEX-USB+CAN is probably your best bet but don't hesitate to look over the application charts or talk to Ross-Tech, they are a great group of folks.
Sometimes you find them on eBay or on the classifieds here, but be very wary of 'cracked' or knockoff versions.
They also hold their value well, so don't expect to find one much under $300.

My experience is mostly with the 2005+ C and D models.

Correct.
If you want to go forward, my suggestion would be to get a full blown cable instead of registering the 'light' version.

So I finally got around to scanning my car. After clearing the codes and scanning again it looks to be the steering angle sensor or the module associated with it. Do you think this would be releated to all of the rest of the problems I am experiencing with the interior electronics not working? I replaced the CCM to find out the old CCM was working. The CCM harness looked great with no splices or wires rubbed though.
