Default A6-C6 Window Regulator Adaptation

Today I noticed that the one-touch up and down functions on the drivers window were not working. All of the others work correctly. A fault scan of the drivers door shows:

Address 42: Door Elect, Driver Labels: 4F0-910-793-42.lbl
Part No SW: 4F0 910 793 E HW: 4F0 959 793 E
Component: TSG FA H12 0210
Revision: 00000000 Serial number: #a9
Coding: 0051947
Shop #: WSC 02327 785 00200
VCID: 2C5C18CEF68D

1 Fault Found:
02111 - Motor for Window Regulator
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100101
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 239
Mileage: 82671 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2011.09.08
Time: 17:27:56

I checked the measuring blocks and the switch correctly shows the manual and auto positions for both directions when I actuate the switch one and two notches. I have read that you can adapt the regulator by opening the window fully and then closing it and holding the switch for an additional 3-5 seconds. I tried this and it did not work. There is no obvious adaptation for the drivers door controller. Can you tell me how to adapt the window regulator?

The autoscan is attached. Ignore the bulb out warning, that was fixed. It does look like I need to have the dealer check the air flap positioning motor that they replaced earlier this year.

I think I fixed it. I found this on another forum.

Ignition On
Window all the way down
Window all the way up
Let go of switch
Press window switch up again for 2-3 seconds, let go

The regulator should now be re-adaptied.

It seems to work now. Let's see how it works for the next few days.

My question is why did it happen?

I doubt anyone can give you a definitive answer to this.

I suspect it can lose its adapation if there's too much friction, i.e. the motor has to work too hard.

Thank you for explaining that. I was about to take apart my window switch! That worked much better....and easier!
