Default ABS-Cluster Fault

Getting code 01203 - Electrical Connection between ABS & Instrumentation Cluster, 31-00 Open or Short to Ground.

Background:
Initially had no communication to abs module. Had broken silver wires in ABS module & had it repaired by Module Masters. Installed, & then had code 01203. Got a 2nd ABS module from MM, thinking 1st was still bad. Same 01203 code with 2nd module.

Found wiring diagrams in Bentley & checked circuits btwn ABS & Cluster as shown in pic.
Circuits test good continuity & no short to ground.
Don't know what to check next, to hunt down this problem.

Have you coded the new ABS module ?

A complete Auto-Scan would be helpful too.

Thanks for the interest Jakematic.
No I did not recode. #1 rebuilt module was from my car, so did not recode.#2 module was same part number & didn't think I needed to recode it. Vagcom was able to communicate with both 1 & 2, with same fault code occurring after clearing codes.

I'll get a copy of the auto-scan from my other computer at home & post it here.
Car is in service position right now, after replacing clutch & other items, & I'm rebuilding fan motors due to worn brushes. So I may not be able to do a new scan right away, but I think I have an older one, & this problem hasn't changed.

Not sure what all is involved in the rebuild, but I still would want to look at it on #1.
For #2 you'll very likely need to recode it.
Note that one of the models has coding for with/without CAN bus.

You *should* be able to use the original coding for #1 on #2 unless it's a variant (aka color coded) part number.

Post up the complete scan when you get a chance and I'll take a look.

I don't have a recent autoscan that was saved since ABS was repaired. I will do another once we get engine up & running again. So be aware this scan is quite out of date (Feb 2012). Some updates that I recall are: 1) all misfires & cam position info is fixed, 2) Don't think we had ABS rebuilt at this time (not sure if it was unplugged), 3) O2 sensor fixed, 4) all central lock faults have been fixed.
So I'll understand if you hold back until I get a current scan, so I'm not chasing ghosts. It'll be likely ~2 weeks until I get a current scan, as I'm waiting for other parts, & mostly work it on weekends.

I'm not very VAGCOM savy, but one of the puzzling issues is that near top of scan it lists the following, but only the ones I marked in red are listed in detail below. Is it supposed to be providing scans of each address number listed, or does it skip some for a reason.

No, it should not skip modules.
It thinks those are installed for some reason and may just be trying every plausible address for that chassis since it cannot reach the cluster.

What's odd is 03 and 17 are missing - the two I was most interested in.

Has anything else been replaced (e.g. cluster, ECU, etc) ?
Not having the original coding for 03 could be tricky but it should be able to be reverse engineered.
The cluster is what controls comms to all the module so suspect wiring can't be ruled out yet.

A more recent scan would be more helpful, when you have the time
