Default Anyone know if I can use my VAG COM cable to scan a 2000 Ford Contour?

My gf's car is acting up. If I download some free OBDII software will I be able to scan for codes or is a different protocol/pinout?

Default Doubt it. Fords of that vintage generally use SAE J1850-PWM

which uses different pins on the OBD-II connector than anything VW/Audi uses, and requires different interface hardware (a different chipset to accommodate the pulse width modulated data).

Of course, it doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks, I wound up taking it to Advanced and had them scan it. Next time I'll give it a shot.
