Default Bluetooth OBD2 scanner?

So apparently I've been living under a rock and have never heard about these. I had been wanting previously to get the VAG-COM for my computer for diagnostics on my B6 A4. BUT, I'm thinking I want an OBD2 scanner so I can diagnose my Fiancee's car should anything go wrong, she drives an '03 Toyota Highlander. Does anyone have any experience with the Bluetooth scanners? I have an Iphone6 but was thinking about finding a used iPad to install the app, and then which app? I heard Torque is good but haven't found any support for iPhone/iPad. Any advice?

Bluetooth ODB2 adapters don't work with iOS devices, only Android. There are some WiFi-enabled adapters but I've never tested them.

I personally use a BT adapter from scantool.net. It's the MX version with a 2013 Google Nexus 7 tablet. If you don't need to scan GM or Ford cars then you can get the LX for about 2/3 the price. Both are considerably more expensive than the cheap adapters you'll find on Amazon or eBay but almost 100% of those use counterfeit ELM327 chips so your mileage may vary...
