Default A/C Issues...Need help with a VAG code

Thanks to Tyler in Derry, NH for the use of his VAG!

As I have posted before in the B5 forum, my A/C turns off after about 20 mins. and won't come back on until the car is completely cool (this is not a temp sensor issue, it has already been replaced).

Here is the VAG readout:

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

Control Module Part Number: 8D0 820 043 H
Component and/or Version: A4-KLIMAVOLLAUTOMAT_D65
Software Coding: 00062
Work Shop Code: WSC 06322
1 Fault Found:
01270 - A/C Magnetic Clutch (N25)
36-10 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

...Anyone have a clue of what this means???

Thanks!

Phil

Default Sounds like you need a new AC clutch...

Looks like the winding on the clutch may be opening up when it gets hot.

Yes, I am betting that it is the clutch. Now the compressor is repeatedly engaging and disengaging.

How much $$ for a clutch?

Default Could be that your refrigerant leaked out?...

I don't have an Audi AC system schematic in front of me. But maybe there is a pressure sensor that is reporting that there is no refrigerant in the system.

Just a thought. This is exactly how my Jeep Grand Cherokee would tell me to please kindly add a pound of R134a. I know you are thinking, "What does a Jeep have to do with an Audi?!!"

The AC clutch is enabled by a relay when you ask for cold air. A sensor determines there's not enough pressure in the AC system, so ze KlimateKontroler kills the relay to the clutch periodically to save the compressor. Then ze KlimateKontroler system re-enables the clutch every few minutes to check if you dumped some refridgerant in there. Finding none, it disables the clutch and waits some more.
