I want a VAG COM!
Okay so I have a 1997 A4 1.8T Qauttro. I have owned it since 2002 and still love it. I am a pretty competant home mechanic but have learned that you need a vag com to really work on the car. I wish I would have bought one long ago as it would have payed for itself by now. So I went to ebay and looked. I was epecting to spend upwards of 500 plus bucks on something resembling a fancy version of the OBD tool I paid 90 bucks for. However what I found is a cable and software running anywhere from 30 to 80 bucks. Are these legit? Is this what a vag com is? If so that would be sweet as I could just take one of my laptops in the garage, however I am skeptical. If they are this cheap why wouldn't everyone have one?

Thats more like it. Okay, should I get the 250 one or 350? If I get the 250 one my car is old enough it looks like I would need the KEY/KII-Series unit. Is that correct? These prices still seem very reasonable. Will I be able to perform a throttle body adaptation with these units? Thanks

The KII-USB would work just fine with your car. So you know, that interface will work with models from 1995.5-2005.5 and with an adapter can go back to around 1990.
Yes, you can do a throttle body adaptation along with any other factory level diagnostic procedure that can be done with the factory tool. You can code modules, you can do bi-directional testing using the output tests, you can view live data, you can do basic settings and adaptations.
