Default Can I use my Vag-Com to temporarily turn off ABS? My ABS controller is messed up, and

I need to change it, but in the meantime I ahve the blinking ABS and BRAKES lights flashing in my face all the time (oh, and the annoying ABS alarm every time I start the car...).

Car is '00 a6 2.7T tip.

Thanks in advance.

Default why not just remove the controller and send it in for rebuild?

if that's the problem, of course.

Default that's the plan but in the meantime I have 2 trips (4 hours each way each time) and

the thought stuck me that "Hey - I wonder if Vag-Com can get me through this" until I send the unit to ModuleMaster. In a couple of weeks I'll be able to take the car off the road for the 2 days or so needed for the rebuild.

Nope, cannot be "turned off".

Default Thanks, Andy. I was afraid of that. Looks like I'll live with blinking lights

and alarms chiming at start-up for a couple of weeks more.

You can pull the abs power supply fuse.

Default Bingo.

However, I've read that doing so biases the braking toward the rear. Perhaps diagnosticator1 can confirm?

Default I have never heard that, AFAIK, the brakes will operate the same but there would...

be no ABS intervention in situations where ABS would normally become active modifying braking system application. A rear bias shift is possible, but I can't think of any reason that would be the case from a functional or hardware configuration aspect. The hydraulics is divided diagonal, I don't know of any property of the system that could rear bias without some sort of control action applied moderating hydraulic pressure to the front only. The Electronic Brake Force Distribution would not be active with ABS controller de-energized, and I don't believe the hydraulics is rear biased by hardware default, but having said that, rear brake lockup is more likely without the EBFD active, causing the apparent effect of increased rear bias, and there is no rear brake force limitation provided by a rear suspension position activated pressure limitation valve like was used before ABS/EBD was standard. Maybe that is the basis for the effective rear bias behavior you heard about?

If you still need it rebuilt. email me. I can do it cheaper than module masters.
