Default Decisions, decisions.......

OK, I have a '02 S6. My cellphone that I just mounted in my car is a Kyocera 6035 (Smartphone)and the guys over at Shadetree say that they've tried the software with that phone. That would be convenient, but.....

The VAG-Com stuff has been around longer and may be more stable. I'm really just looking at recoding some features and possibly pulling error codes, so it probably wouldn't be that much of a hassle to drag out the laptop.

Any thoughts? I guess I'd be getting the Hex-com for ease of installation.

Another thing - I have an OBD II to serial adapter from the Hypertech programmer I used with my Yukon - will that work in a pinch until my Hex-com comes in? That way I could spend the weekend playing with it and seeing if the laptop is a PITA to drag around in the car.

Default The ShadeTree stuff definitely works on a 6035..

Andy has one and we have it installed on there.

The Hypertech OBD-II hardware won't work with either software. GM uses SAE J1850/VPW for the hardware interface while VW/Audi use ISO-9141 (different pins of the OBD-II connector).

Now as far as pulling fault codes, click the link below to see a comparison.

Something else worth contemplating: How often do you see the Shadetree guys answering questions here? :-)

Default Uwe, Thanks. I agree with you, but.......

...it sure is tempting as I already have the phone in the car - all nicely mounted and everything......

Audi apparently ported the 1552 to the palm, because an Audi dealer in Germany was using an IBM Workpad to diagnose errors on a friend's car....

Too bad you can't....

Default It's not that I can't, I've simply chosen not to.

FWIW, I've never heard of an "official" VAG-tool on the Palm Platform. Audi did show a prototype running on Pocket-PC at some shows last year. *If* we ever do a PDA version, it will also be for Pocket-PC, not for Palm.

Default Ahhh......another poor soul brainwashed by Micrososoft....

.....yep, I spelled it that way intentionally....

It is true that handheld folks seem to be fanatic about "their" platform, and I'm sure that whoever you create it for will cause an uproar in the other camp.....

So I guess I'll have to decide if I want to drag the laptop out to the car everytime I want to make a change.....

Default Wrong. Since I don't use a PDA, I am not a fanatic adherent of either platform.

I've worked out of my house since 1997. What do I need a PDA for? :-)
