Dell Latitude C400/Vag Com problems
Vag-Com doesn't seem to work with my Latitude C400 running XP. I've tried several different settings with no luck.
I used another laptop I had sitting around - a Compaq M300 running XP and it worked fine.
Anyone else seen this?

Are you using an ISO-COM?
Latitude C400's have a "lame" serial port which can't push enough current to reliably drive the ISO-COM (or any of the other commonly available interfaces based around opto-isolator chips). Many Compaq Presarios and some Acers also had this problem, but to my knowledge, no other Dell models did.
You can test for this problem with a simple LED. Connect it between pins 4 and 5 of the PC's serial port. If it doesn't light up, reverse it's polarity. Once you get it to light up, observe it closely. On a good port it will glow steadily. On a "lame" port it will flicker.
This is one reason why we no longer make interfaces based around opto-isolator chips. All of our current serial interfaces use a MAX-232 type chip on the PC side and are fully compatible with all laptop serial ports.
Sounds like it's time for an upgrade to a HEX-COM or a TWIN-USB..:-)
