Engine Check Light ON but no codes to read

Engine Check Light ON but no codes to read
Hi,
For the past 3 weeks, the "Engine Check light" on my 1996 Audi A6 has been staying on.
I've taken it to Autozone atleast 4 or 5 times and they get the message "Passed - No error Codes" every single time.
The mechanic at Autozone told me I needed to drive it long distance, maybe 70 or more miles one way for the internal computer to re-read itself or whatever. I did that too, but no change and they still cant read anything. Please help!

Read this (link) and get a real scan tool.
