Default How to delete old codes

How do I delete fault codes? Is it possible to do so without a OBD tool? Just unhooking the negative battery cable is just a short term fix. How do I do it for good so I can see if it is the same old code popping up or if I have not solved the problem?

Find your local VCDS person and have them clear the codes. Takes a couple of minutes.
