Default If I'm unwilling to buy a laptop just for my VAG-COM, what are my options? Can I

make/buy a cable to run it to my desktop (inconvenient, but way cheaper than a laptop) or should I just buy a cheap-o monitor for my old AMD-K6/350 desktop tower sitting in my garage?

Default Get an old 640x480 beater laptop

I bet you could find one that is so outdated someone may just give it to you. Otherwise, you could probably find one for under 100 bucks. CD-ROM and a Serial Port are all you really need.

Default Why do you need a CD-ROM?

VAG-COM fits on a single floppy! :-)

Default You can do any of those!

A desktop old/unused desktop PC in the garage is not a bad way to go.

Default Yah I bought a great laptop for 100 bucks. From a vw friend of a friend. Nec versa.. mmx 133.

Put my bentley manual and my vag-com software with excel. It runs great.... The nec versa has swapable drives. So I put the two batteries in at once. Even tho they are kinda of old, I still get 2 hours of battery life.

So glad to have a laptop working again and doing some logs..
