just got my hex-com, question about fault codes
EDIT: I scrolled through all the Yahoo postings, and found the answer to the "adaptation limit surpassed" fault. Question about how to talk to the dealer is still valid... thanks
cool toy, the hex-com was very easy to set up and start playing immediately. Bummer is I found faults in the cent. locks module. Faults are listed below. I've searched the yahoo site as well as this forum, but no mentions of these specific faults.
Is it OK to waltz into the service department, tell them I have a VAG-COM and these faults? Ask them to fix the problems? Or do I play dumb customer, and say my locks have been acting funny? I'm still under warranty.
Anybody know if all these are related, or is each a separate problem?
One more question... Is this where having the Bently CD is important? Does the CD manual have answers to these types of questions?
Thanks for reading... Here are the faults:
VAG-COM Version: Release 303.1
Control Module Part Number: 8L0 862 257 N
Component and/or Version: CV-Pump D11
4 Faults Found:
01367 - Central Locking Pump Run Time Exceeded (Likely Leak)
35-00 - -
01370 - Alarm triggered by Interior Monitoring
35-00 - -
01365 - Lock/Unlock Switch: Interior
29-00 - Short to Ground
00956 - Key 2
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed

nothing to worry about...
... unless your locking pump is still running long.
the run time exceeded means that at one time, the pump ran a bit longer that expected. This could happen if you pressed the unlock button a few times in a row. If you have a leak, you'd have problems unlocking a door.
Alarm triggered is ok... just means the alarm went off at one time and it was the interior monitor that set it off.
Adaptation limit surpasses is fine. Just clear the codes and recode the key. If both keys are working, then leave the keys alone. I have this fault code and my keys both work. I think the code was thrown after I needed the battery replaced for the remote.
Short to ground... if your switch still works inside, then its ok right now.
If you're taking the car to the dealer, just tell them that you had the car at another shop and they pulled some codes, and thats why you brought the car there. Leave the codes in for the dealer to get themselves.
I wouldn't take the car in for any of these codes unless you're still have issues and you are under warranty. Out of warranty, clear the codes and see if any show up again.

Re: Bentley will help tell you what the code is and how to "fix it"
Most times I'd recommend clearing the code and seeing if it reappears. Faulty sensor codes (if the sensor is truly faulty) will re-appear almost immediately if it's a persistent problem.
The bentley is a great tool to see what's wrong, and how to fix it. You can usually pick a CD-ROM manual up on ebay for ~70 USD.

yeah...
But from all of my informed internet engineering over at the S4 forum <sarcasm> I've read lots of comments about how the Bentley CD is lacking, so I didn't splurge for it when I got the hex-com.
Maybe others have found it lacking for thier specific problem... I guess I'm looking for someone to extol the goodness from a vag-com diagnostic point-of-view (I have read what is on the ross-tech site about it)
