Default Newbie- needs reassurance

Ok I've got a Sick A6Q Avant, I've tried the cheap cable deal( USB via ebay) with Version 4.11 or what ever the freeware is. I can talk to sections of the car I don't care much about like the instruments and the radio but nothing that helps me at all ie brakes, engine, ABS.

I'm not here to whine and try to get the cheap crap to work, But I am wondering if it's possible that my cars not talking right,

So tell me to pull the trigger and spend the money and get the right thing and the planet will spin right and I can get my dash to stop looking like it's on fire with error lights and I'll do it

Just a note,I've been a computer pro for 20 years and a above average mechanic for longer than that I've programmed Fuel maps on porsches so it's possible I"m doing some dumb *** thing but at least it's in the minimal possiblity catagory.IF it works I"ll follow up this post

Thanks
Matt

Default Contact the Aftermarket Vendor on Fleabay for support.

Well, you could try this and post the results: with the cable plugged into the car and the Key On Engine off, run the [Test] function on the [Options] screen of VAG-COM. Tell us what it reports?

But then, you never mentioned what year the Sick A6 is. 2005 or newer? If so, those systems are most likely on the CAN diagnostic bus and your fleabay cable is not CAN capable.

If you want to stick with your aftermarket cable, you will most likely need to contact your aftermarket vendor for support.

I'll give that a try this evening,It's a 1999 so the normal non CAN should work fine.

I"m not really looking for support for the crappy ebay cable I gave it a try and now it will make a crappy dog leash or something. I was more just looking for a yes it works when you buy it from Ross Tech... go buy it.

Default And if you have trouble, we'll be by the phone to take your call and help you

Monday - Friday, 9am -6pm Eastern time.

If it doesn't work, we'll stand behind the product and get it working.

ok so I got the HEX-Key interface...
No joy on either the ABS or the Airbag modules get can't connect to module, I can get to pretty much anything else my car has that this will talk to, engine, Radio ( stock by the way ), locks.. so

HP DV6000 running Vista home Premium
1999 Audi A6 Quattro Wagon
VAG-COM 704

OK so where do I go from here

Default Unplug the ABS controller and

see if you can then get into airbags.

If so, the problem is your ABS controller is shot. Common problem in Audis of that era.
