Default Panel malfunction

2006 D4 4.2 Petrol A8 Auto.
1st start-up of the day the panel blanks out and resets the time to 0:00 and the date to the previous day. It will reset 2 or 3 times in the first 1 to 2 miles with the rev counter flicking down to 0 and the panel appearing to stop operating and completely blanking out. On occasion it has gone into engine running only with no panel and no direction indicators etc. The only procedure out of this last situation is to disconnect the battery and then reconnect.
Any ideas or anyone else had this experience? It seems to be getting progressively worse as the weeks pass.

OK then - I guess this problem is pretty unique!!??

I can see the "Main Dealer" getting a job here.

I'll give it till Monday then phone them up - Is there any point in posting the problem results here when I find out?

I'm sure there's a pun for route 66 somewhere...
I used to work for Phillips 66!
What a laugh....
