Secondary air injection system Leak test
In reading the Bentley manual at:
Audi > B5 Platform > 1996 - 2002
2.8 Liter V6 5V Engine Mechanical, Engine Code(s): AHA, ATQ
26 - Exhaust system, Emission controls
Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system
There is some very brief discussion about using the "Basic Setting" (scan tool function 04) to perform a diagnosis for the secondary air injection system. The diagnostics consist of a flow test and a leak test.
However, the manual seems to fail to state which "Basic Setting" display groups should be used to initiate these tests. I would very much like to do the leak test as the manual dsecribes, but I just dont know how to invoke it and would appreciate any advice on the subject. Thanks.

Look in the "Readiness Setting" procedure for your engine.
You'll find it there.

Just a single Secondary air injection test there - group 77
Results of that test are just yes/no, can't tell if it were to fail if that is due to flow or leak.
THe manual suggests these tests are run separately, but that doesn't appear to be the case?

I don't know what else to tell you.
The only reference I can find to a Secondary Air System test is the one done in Basic Settings, Group 077. It's possible that this performs both the flow test and the leak test.
In principle, when it's complete and reads "Test OK", the Secondary Air system is good to go, and if it doesn't pass, you should have one or more fault codes pointing towards the problem.

Re: Secondary air injection system Leak test
I don't have Bentley cd loaded on this computer and paper Bentley doesn't seem to have Readiness tests so I can't see what you're referring to. I looked at Alldata to see if I could see what you're referring to as most of that info seems to be licensed from Bentley. There are fuel tank and evap leak tests in 070 and 071. The air injection test is 077. It's looking for exhaust flow. The looped vacuum hose at the solenoid that sends vacuum to the combi valves gets restricted over time, causing the combi valves to not open fully. The combi valves sometimes get carbon build up and don't open properly. I've never heard of other tests than 077 for air injection.
