Throwing Code P0171 System Too Lean (bank 1) - any suggestions?
Well got in my car today after coming back from the car wash to clean up and take care of my debadging I did and she decides to pay me back by throwing on the check engine light next time I went out.
Went to Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts to have them scan the computer with there OBD scanner to tell me what code it was throwing.
It ended up saying P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1).
I do not know what that means at all or where to start at all besides knowing it has to do something with fuel and it is not getting enough fuel I would assume.
Curious if anyone has any idea what it could be or if there is something common or notorious that it could be.
Background information.
1. Bought car used, about a month ago. At time of purchase timing belt and water pump done.
2. 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro
3. 76K miles
4. Recently had APR Chip installed w/91 & 93 octane gas setting & APR R1 Diverter Valve installed.
Any suggestions or tips would be much greatly appreciated. Since I do not want to drive about 1 1/2 to the nearest Audi stealership in Indy (which I have been told is not very friendly, honest or have to many morals or high integrity) and told to avoid and go to Cincinnati if you need to go to a dealer.
Also dont know if the APR chip or DV would have anything to do with it.
I switched back to stock mode tune and the light was still on.
Thanks again....
Donnie

To understand fuel trim, please see this page:
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/fuel-trim.html
OBD-II scans do not give the full picture. You may have more codes than just what the Autozone scan gave. Try to find someone near you with VCDS( VAG-COM) and see what they find when they scan the car. Post the results here and others will try to help.

I have the 2004 Audi 1.8T.
Check engine light is on. I have my car diagonesed at Autozone, code P0171 & P0507 were read. See the picture, is that the problem that caused check engine light?
This is what I am planning to do. I will go to the dealership and get the part, then drive up to a mechanic shop and ask them to change it for me, or any forum members can provide some good tips to change the part.
Just wonder is the car still safe to drive in the next couple days until I have time to bring the car to the shop.
How much is it costs to fix the problem in dealership? Thanks.

Hi all. Newbie here. My wife's got a 2002 A4 1.8T as well. I've got the same problem with the P0171 code and the corroded check valve. Does anyone have the part # for this check valve? Also, this morning when warming up the car, it suddenly died. Tried to restart but it wouldn't come back. Could this check valve be the culprit?
Thanks for your help!
