Default VAG Code 01305 on MFSW - Help

I have been unable to code my MFSW on my 2003 A6 4.2 to work properly with BT, etc. So I looked at the fault codes and found a 01305 - Databus for infotainment - 80-00-Single-Wire operation.

I clear the code, but it keeps on coming back.

Questions:

1) Would this error prevent me from "coding" the steering wheel?

2) How to correct this error? Do I start looking for bad connections at the MFSW controller?

3) Can any other device on the CAN Bus cause this error to show up in the MFSW controller. (I just installed a PCCM MA-BOX on the bus.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lino

Perhaps a list of all my fault codes will help?

I have the Ross-Tech KII-USB interface.

Thanks.

Just one more comment:

Of course, I would like to get rid of my fault code on the MFSW (previous posts). However I realized now that the reason I could not code the MFSW with VAG-COM was because I was trying values not supported by the controller. It does code fine if I use supported values. Currently coded 00005. This on a '03 A6 4.2L.

Also, I should mention that everything seems to be working fine. I just find the message annoying. Does CANBUS run on a sinle-wire? I will assume it does as all seems to be functioning as per the manual.

Cheers

CAN bus is a 2 wire system. There is a CAN HI and CAN Lo wire. If one is broken, there is a reduced performance mode initiated and communication can still occur using a slower speed on one wire. I believe the controller is "ragging" that it can only perform on a single wire for some reason.

This could be as a result of a bad connection, a short to ground somewhere in the harness, a component failure on a device connected to the bus and so on.

It is one of those problems that can only be resolved by following a wiring diagram.

Thanks Bruce.

I was focusing on MFSW controller, but since you suggested other components could be causing the fault, I unplugged the multimedia device (PCCM MA-BOX) and the fault went away.

What's puzzling is that all seems to work well regardless, but probably with a lot of collisions on the bus while the error manifests itself.

Would a device (in this case my multimedia device) work if the CAN high and low were switched?

Thanks for your help. It helped me move my focus away from the MFSW and find the problem.

I don't think you can reverse CAN HI and CAN LO. When CAN HI drives high, simultaneously CAN Lo drives low if memory serves. Reversing the leads would present the wrong levels to the receivers and would not allow proper communication. If you really want to study what goes on in a CAN system, you may want to look at Wikipedia's page on Controller Area Networks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controller_Area_Network
