Default VAG-Com 'Can't synch Baud Rate' problem

I bought a non RossTech KKL-USB interface cable to see why I get frequent 'Emissions Workshop' warning lights. Running the free version 409.1 I can see the ABS controller, read temperatures, steering wheel angle etc but cannot connect to the engine controller and get the Can't Sync Baud rate message.

Below is the data file it created

I have posted this question because I could not get the forum archive search to work.

Default Common issue with 3rd party hardware. Which engine do you have? Checked our FAQ?

Default "The engine is a 1.6L petrol"

Wow that really narrows it down. Do you have any idea how many different "1.6L Petrol" engines VW has made?

Try Options -> Start Baud = 9600.

If that doesn't so it, contact your hardware vendor for assistance.

Actually I did not have any idea how many differeny 1.6L petrol engines there are.Thanks for your help anyway, I will try the 9600 setting you mentioned although I did not notice that option in the USB settings but will look next time I get the car back from the garage!

Basically I took the car to a local garage who read the code (intermittent missfire on cylinder 2) and so did a compression test which points to valve fault on that cyl. 44,000 miles and of course just out of warranty!

Thanks once again
