VAG-COM or VAD newbie dumb question
Hello All,
I just picked up a new to me 2006 A6. Looking at getting a VAG-Com or VAD.
Two questions;
What are the difference between these two systems?
If I go with the VAG-COM do you just purchase the interface cable and the software is downloadable for free?
Thanks in advance for you patients with the dumb questions.

I will comment on the "VAG-COM" side of things:
VAG-COM, the former name of the Ross-Tech VCDS product, is a full factory level diagnostic tool. It performs most of the functions the factory tool can do: Fault code listing with freeze frame data; Live measuring values; Basic Settings, Adaptations, Output Tests are supported; Coding of modules is fully supported.
For more information, visit the Ross-Tech Website (www.Ross-Tech.com) and be sure to visit the Ross-Tech Wiki (wiki.Ross-Tech.com) as well as the Shop pages.

I may be biased since I have VCDS....But PALM, really PALM.....?? Just my 2 cents, if I was looking at a solution, I would choose one that at least uses technology from a current company and not one out of business. Now, not to be overtly biased, that is the one thing that Ross-Tech could improve on which is portability. So if they were to make an iphone or android based app that communicated via bluetooth.....Well that would be the cat's meow

YADQ (... yet another dumb question ...)
My apologies for resurrecting this old topic. but I believe in the fewer the topics the better for searches ...
I purchased an ELM327 wifi device for working with an iPhone app, and I was surprised the app couldn't even read my 2013 Q5's fuel gauge! (... altho it did seem to read many other parameters, but logging fuel economy in real time would be nice to have). I researched a number of other apps, to commonly find an '*' disclaimer specifically next to accessing "fuel" info, to state that "not all cars' OBD2 will work with this parameter(!?)
So ... I thought I'd ask here if any Audi owners have been satisfied with their OBD2 device working together with a specific iOS app? What are you using for Audi (or VAG) specific fault codes?
The specs for my ELM327 device are:
TIA

Just as an aside, I did purchase the Ross-Tech VCDS cable/software for serious access, but I would like to have a dashboard device for real-time data access while driving ...ISO 9141
