Default Is it normal for winter tires to give a slightly rougher ride on the highway?

Hello,

I have been using winter tires on my cars lately and this is my third set of winter sets for me and its on the new 2012 Audi A8L. I have the audi winter set with dunlop wintersport 3d tires. The tires are smooth at lower speed and the wheels/tires are balanced perfectly. Just out of curiosity, does the aggressive tire pattern induce a slightly rougher ride on the smooth highways as compared to all seasons at higher speed? There is no abnormal vibration but I feel a slight road feel vibes in the seats and it depends on the road surface. I have noticed this on all of my winter sets.

Some performance oriented winter tires like the Winter Sport 3D may ride more firmly than some all season or touring tires.

Thank you Gary,

I agree with your assessment. I do like how silky smooth my Continental Contiprocontacts feel on the highways during spring to fall. But its a trade-off during winter.

+1
I have noticed most snow tires are slightly louder than all season and summer tires, it is usually the more aggressive tread pattern that causes the difference in noise.
