2014 C7 A6 winter tire recommendations
I have the 3.0T with the sport package of 19" wheels. 255/40/19. I used TireRack for an idea on a winter setup. They recommend minus one sizing which limited me to the lm-32 and Xice Xi3 in 225/50/18 size.
I live on Long Island, NY. We see all kinds of weather in the winter. Last year we got a lot of snow. Highways have the slushy stuff.
Any other recommendations?

Hakka R2 255/40x18 for less!
Discount tire direct is selling there remaining Hakka R2 & R2 SUV at VERY reasonable prices. I just checked and the only 18's left are 255/40x18 at $209 ea inc sh also $50 rebate on four. The think this a better tire than the two you mentioned & for less dough. YMMV

still considering. I've included the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4, the Nokian R2, the Nokian WRG3 and the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D. Any recommendations?

We just fitted a fresh set of the Nokian WR G3 tires to our 2006 wagon. While I have yet to drive in snow, I have driven in icy conditions and I think this is going to be a good tire that can be considered an "all season" tire. It's quiet and smooth-riding. Very pleasant so far. FWIW, they're rated LRR.
Another tire that I've fitted to several cars with great success and longevity is the Conti ExtremeContact snow tire. This is a excellent product.
I've got the Michelin Xice Xi2 on my daily driver and could never recommend it. It's terrible in the snow in terms of sliding. It leads to an underwear-changing experience.

What size WR G3's are you running? I had considered WR G3's year round but found a set of 16in '06 A6 wheels for $185 so coughed up for 225/55x16 Hakka R2's which are truly amazing in ice/snow. There is some handling degradation as compared to Nokian 245/45x17 Zline Summer's but not terrible. I'll probably be getting an '06 A4 Avant 2.0T 6MT to replace my '95 S6 Avant for wife/daughter duty and am considering WR G3's year round.

Gary at Tire Rack hooked us up with 16" winter wheels for our C6 A6 wagon. I think the size you quote is what we have. Real pleased with the Nokian WR G3 so far...
