Default Unexpected Wheels

I am new here, so sorry if this has been asked before. Is it common to get a new car with wheels that are quite different from those shown on Audi.com for your model and trim?

For my 2012 A3 TDI Premium Plus, I was supposed to get the 10-spooke 17" rims shown in the picture. Instead I got the 5-spoke 17" rims shown. I do not know where the swap took place and why. The dealer said that this is an "upgrade," which seems quite doubtful.

Has anyone else had such an experience? Does anyone recognize this 5-spoke design and knows if it is anywhere near similar in price and quality to the 10-spoke one shown? Thanks, Cornelia

It is not unusual for this to happen, but it is rare. I was suppose to get summer performance tires with my SLine option on our Q5 but got all seasons instead.

The five spokes you got will be easier to keep clean. I got simple five spokes to run my snow tires for the Q5.

After accepting the car it will be hard to force the dealer to make any adjustment. You can escalate the issue to the owner of the company and then to Audi of America if you really want the ten spokes.

Thx. very much, Reggie. Is there any way to tell, though, if these rims that I was given might be cheaper/and or older than what is shown on Audi's web site and in the photo above? That's my concern...

They look like OEM rims - all Audi rims are very strong and good quality. I would look on your sticker and any paperwork for the car to see if it says what rims you received. If the rims you wanted (10 spokes) were 17" then will be no difference in performance. If you were suppose to get a bigger rim (i.e 18" or more) then I would raise a fuss as these are more expensive.

It is not unheard of for a dealer to swap rims but it would be rare.

I've never considered the Cooper as an option. Maybe because I'm not a fan of the styling or it just never caught my attention.
