Default 'California legal' snow tires

FYI,
for those of you considering snow tires for
travel to california ski resorts, you might
consider this bit of legal speak below.
i'm not sure tires like the Pirelli
P-7000 SS or even Dunlop WinterSport M2
legally qualify as mud & snow tires.
personally, i would like to outfit my car
with the P-7000SS, but could be defeating
the whole point for getting the A4 to begin
with (go skiing w/o putting on chains)
"Snow Tires"
Snow Tires The California Vehicle Code section 558 defines a
snow-tread tire as follows: "A 'Snow-tread tire' is a tire which
has a relatively deep and aggressive tread pattern compared with
conventional passenger tread pattern". Snow-tread tires can be
identified by examining the sidewall of the tire where the
letters MS, M/S, M+S or the word MUD AND SNOW have been stamped
into the sidewall.

http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/chcontrl.htm
