need new tires, but think i want to change size

I currently have ronal r41 rims and 225/45/17 falken ziex ze512 tires on my '98 a4. The tires dont quite wrap all the way around on the rim so i wanted to get them a little wider so that they look a little better but i dont know if they will fit on the rim and not rub on the inside.
Does anyone have a wider tires on the 17in rim on their a4 and know that there is enough space without rubbing or if i should just stick with the size i know fits. Also any tire recommendations would be great. I have looked on tirerack, but haven't done much research. I'm looking for the best buy high performance all season tire.
Thanks for any help

My A4's ('03 and '05) had 235/45/17's
I'm sure you could go that big without any problems. It would have a slightly bigger diameter, but I don't think enough to be a problem.

Re: The B5 (1996-2001) A4 cars have very tight clearance up front.
I noticed you dont have the falkens anymore at tirerack gary, do you have a comparable tire for the price?

Different brands could vary in actual sizing as well. I was never a fan of the Falken Ziex. I suppose for the money, you can always take a look at the Kumho SPT, and if you had to have something cheaper (also slightly less performing) you can take a look at the General Exclaim UHPs.
