Default Switch from Bridgestone RE970AS to Conti DWS06?

Hi,

I have a 2014 A4 Prestige S-Line with 19" wheels & 255/35/19 tires. (Car is a very pretty Scuba Blue, special order and totally worth the wait!!!)

When the car was new I put on Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS All Season tires. They seem great, but on recent service found that they are cupping due to mis-alignment (my bad for not checking that sooner) and now need to replace them.

In general I've been happy with the Bridgestone, but they do tend to be noisy and give the car a bit of a harsh ride (have also gotten what seems like more than my share of flats from small nails, etc. 5 in 20,000 miles, but that could just be bad luck)

Read plenty of pro's and con's about the RE970AS vs the Continental DWS06 in the past, but thought I would toss this out to the community to see if anyone has any experience or suggestions about sticking with Bridgestone vs moving to the Continentals. (Price is exactly the same!). Driving is mostly in Northern California and Pacific NW, plenty of rain, very rarely snow. Would love something a little smoother and quieter if possible.

Many thanks.

The Continental is smoother and quieter and the newer DWS06 version of the tire has quicker steering response and handling that is pretty close to the 970A/S. If I were in your shoes I would move to the Continental.

I have made this exact change on my 2013 A6. When new, I sold the included Pirelli P-Zeros and mounted a set of the RE970AS. I liked them very much but in time, they were wearing unevenly, hard to balance and finally needed replacing at 32K miles. I ordered and mounted the new DWS 06 and am very pleased. (I owned the old DWS on my 2009 A4).

Here are my subjective comparisons: based on ownership

!-10; 10 is best

I feel the DWS 06 UHP A/S are the best compromise for handling and comfort tire that I've ever owned (this with dozens of different tire brands and models purchased over 40+ years and 35+ cars). They are significantly improved over the older DWS which have been a very popular tire. I highly recommend them.

Thanks both. I'm going to make the switch to the DWS06
Willing to sacrifice a bit of handling in favour of the ride/noise and other factors.

A lot of cars over a lot of years. My first was in 1966 - a very used 120k mile '57 Studebaker 3-speed with no second gear my dad bought from my uncle for $50. One week later the engine seized. My dad got his $50 back.

Hopefully you will be as pleased with the DWS 06 as I am.

Had the original DWS tires and had no complaints. Their sidewalls are a bit soft but I was very pleased with their traction and handling. Planning to try the DWS06 next time.

As I've written and as they correctly claim, they have improved the sidewall flex in the DWS 06 and as a result, better cornering with very little compromise from the old DWS ride comfort.
