Tire problems 2014 A6
We purchased a new 2014 in April 2014. 4 months later we drove over a divider curb at about 20mph and the 2 right tires blew out. We bad. About 6 months later I drove over a small, 4" deep pot hole at about 20 mph and a leak and bubble developed in the left front tire requiring replacement. We learned our lesson and slowed down if there was any hint of a road defect visible. Nevertheless 6 months later we developed a left front bubble without any evident cause. The rims were fine in all 4 cases.
In the same time period a friend with a 2015 RS6 went over a long pothole crossing the road. He had to replace the 2 right wheels and repair the 2 left wheels. All 4 tires were fine. Maybe the higher performance tires made the difference?
After the 4th tire replacement I checked online. Low quality Audi tires is not an uncommon complaint. The OEM model of Continental tires seems to be the culprit.
I looked at the construction label on my tires. The sidewalls are only one-ply. The sidewall on the original tire is Rayon? and the replacements are polyester.
I have yet to find information on the construction of specific tires models on the Internet. I would like to see it.
To add insult to injury Audi OEM tires have no warranty. The dealer gave only 25% replacement cost of the replacemention tire that they had installed.
My final point is that the recommended tire pressures on the door pillar is for a maximum load. Could they be overinflated for a normal load? The manual has the correct normal pressures.
