winter tires
I was considering Michelin pilot alpine PA4, as I've had primacy alpine and liked it a lot
One tire shop is selling that or Gislaved nordfost 100 for $70 cheaper
and a dealer wants to put continentals on.
Any recommendations out of those 3? This is for Southern Ontario driving. I'm debating about whether to chance it without winters now as we're almost done (I get the car a day or so after the roads will presumably be clear later this week).
For an S4.

The Continental Extreme Contact has been a very good snow tire for us. I've installed a couple sets. Good value, too.

I put PA4's on our S5 cabriolet last year, and have been very happy with them. They replaced Dunlop M3. The M3 were noisier and harsher than the Michelins.
On our prior A4 cab, we had Gislaved for winter, but I can't remember what model they were. Excellent in snow and ice, but grip levels in the dry were average.
There is always a compromise with winter tyres: what is best in snow and ice is not going to be as good on dry pavement. I don't know Canada that well, but Southern Ontario has the least severe winter weather in Canada?
If so, the PA4 will give you about the best dry road performance you can get on winters. If that is not so important to you, and you'd prefer to be a bit more secure in very low grip conditions, the Gislaved might be a better bet.
Here in Switzerland, where winter tyres are mandatory, we are attuned to changing on temperature. The crossover point between summer vs winter compounds is 7 degrees celsius. Performance drop off of winters into higher temps is more gentle than drop off of summer tyres into lower temps (they tend to go from gripping to hockey pucks over a range of 2 or 3 degrees). We would not change until April.
But if it does get a bit warmer, you'll be happier to keep the PA4 on the car for longer than the Gislaved.
If it was me, I would get the winters put on now. Being on the right compound at the right time is even more important than AWD, although being on both is the best

Nokian Hakkapeliitta Winter Tires
they are the BEST company for winter tires
before Nokia made cell phones(which MS bought out) they made tires
i have used their winter tires on 5 of my last 5 vehicles
get the plastic studs if allowed in your area/country
they are easy to install and remove and DO NOT damage the roads like the old steel/screw studs
