Audi A6 C5: How to Replace Coolant

The radiator has a very important job in your Audi A6 C5; it's designed to cool the coolant that runs through your engine, which keeps your engine cool and prevents it from overheating. Replacing the coolant is a great way to ensure a healthy radiator, as well as clean any dirt or grime inside of it. The fresher your coolant is, the cooler it will keep your engine. The procedure requires draining the old coolant, then refilling it with new, fresh one. This guide will help you replace your old coolant in the Audi A6.
Materials Needed
- Drain pan
- Jack and jack stands
- Coolant
Step 1 – Jack up car
Use your jack to raise the front of your Audi, then secure it with jack stands.
Step 2 – Drain old coolant
Locate the drain cock on the lower radiator hose, then place your drain pan directly under it. To drain the fluid, open the reservoir cap on the radiator, turn the drain cock counter-clockwise 90 degrees, then pull it out just a little. Turn it another 90 degrees, then pull it out a little more. Let the coolant drain until it completely stops.
Step 3 – Refill radiator with coolant
After you close the drain cock, lower the car, then refill the radiator with coolant via the overflow tank until it hits the top. After the coolant reaches the top, start the car and let it run for a few minutes, which will cause the coolant to get sucked into the engine. Top off the radiator with more coolant until it reaches the top.
