Materials Needed

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Drain pan
  • Socket
  • Engine oil

Step 1 – Jack up the car

Use your jack to raise the front of your car, enough that you can fit under it, then secure it with jack stands. The jack goes right behind the front wheels, and the jack stands go directly next to it, inwards, on the metal piece dedicated for it.

Step 2 – Drain engine oil

Open the oil cap on top of the engine, then slide under the car and locate the drain plug on the oil pan. It is located on the side of the pan, towards the passenger side. Place the drain pan underneath it, then loosen the drain plug slowly until it's removed. Let the oil drain completely.

Step 3 – Replace oil filter

The oil filter is located on the driver's side of the engine. Remove the engine cover by pulling it up, it's held in place by a few clips, then use your socket to turn the oil filter counter-clockwise to remove. Install the new filter in place, then tighten it. Make sure to rub the filter's rubber gasket with some oil, as this will ensure it doesn't dry and crack.
