1. Handling

The second-generation Audi Q5, set to be released in 2018, will have an optional sports rear differential, faster steering, a sport-tuned suspension, steel springs, and bigger brakes. Overall, the Q5 will handle exceptionally better than its predecessor.

2. Power

The standard Q5 will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4, capable of cranking out 252 hp and 273 lb/ft of torque with help from its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The high-powered SQ5 that will be launched simultaneously will be powered by the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that's no stranger to the S4 and S5. An eight-speed automatic trans will help deliver 369 lb/ft of torque and 354 hp to all four wheels. That's 23 lb/ft more than the first-gen model. Its "hot vee" design entails a twin-scroll turbocharger located between the banks of the cylinder. You can expect a 0-62 time of around 5.2 seconds.

3. Interior Tech

Much of the Q5's interior will resemble the Q7's, with an upgraded MMI interface mounted on the dashboard, equipped with both rotary and touchpad controls. Also borrowed is the Q7's electronic shift knob and a touchpad for handwriting and zooming on the MMI screen. Through an optional digital Virtual Cockpit, the driver has access to adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and lane keep assist all displayed nicely on the 12.3-inch screen that uproots the entire notion of traditional gauges. Rear passengers can enjoy watching their entertainment of choice on two large screens that jut out from the back of the front seats.

4. Comfort and Quality of Ride

With the Q5, you'll have your choice of upgraded trim materials, either open-pore wood or authentic aluminum, as well as quilted leather seats. On the dash, you'll find convenient Drive Select buttons for switching between driving modes that adjust things like steering weight, throttle response, and air suspension for ultimate comfort. Simply adjust for the driving conditions, and the Q5 will do the rest. In terms of space, all passengers can rejoice in a slight gain in foot and cargo room, with the Q5 having grown to 183.6 inches long (a 1.3 inch gain), and the ability to slide the second row back and forth to customize capacity.

5. Exterior Design

Perhaps most noticeably, the new Q5 will adopt the grill of the first-gen SQ5, with its horizontal lines (instead of vertical) that also look Q7-inspired. Not much has changed on the outside, but the Q5 still looks undeniably fresh with its LED headlights and enlarged front fenders that flow into the body style.

Overall, Audi's best-selling 2018 Q5 crossover is getting some worthy upgrades!
