1. Time in between

The general rule of thumb is that when you order an Audi “from scratch,” it takes 10 weeks from date of order to delivery to the dealer. So, if you go this route, do plan on having another car available for a few weeks to hold you over.

2. A hitch in your plans

The issue might be as simple as a problem with a particular batch of paint -- if a new batch needs to be ordered, all production stops until it’s delivered. So, if you go this route, do plan on having every ounce of your patience tried and tested.

3. 8 week status update

There’s no point in checking with them prior to this time because the status will likely not change during these two months. However, after the eighth week, things will begin to move a bit more swiftly, and the dealer can check with the factory for updates on your vehicle.

4. Getting a better deal

Ordering a vehicle saves the dealer the insurance, fees, and a lot of the other costs associated with having a car sit in the lot. As such, it can make them a bit more motivated to negotiate on price since, at the end of the day, this type of vehicle will cost them a lot less than a stock unit.

5. It’s worth it

Not only are you better able to configure the Audi your way, it also means you can get the car you want. Let’s face it -- while Audi is considered a luxury vehicle, it is a mainstream brand. As such, dealers run out of some of the most popular models. Ordering from the factory ensures you will not “settle” on a secondary vehicle or have to hunt multiple dealers to find exactly what you want.
