Galati Wins Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada - Michael Galati, driving the Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, won the Speedvision GT race at the Grand Prix of Las Vegas from the pole.
The win is the first for the Audi S4 program this season. The previous best finish was a second place at Mosport in May.
The 2.25-mile modified oval circuit proved to suit the Audi S4 quattro. From the drop of the green flag, Galati was able to establish an impressive lead. At the halfway mark, Galati felt pressure from the Porsche of Mike Fitzgerald before he dropped out with mechanical problems. Galati's impressive win also included posting the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:24.452 and 95.912 mph.
Teammate Derek Bell had an impressive first half improving his eleventh place starting position to eighth. On lap 23, the officials ruled that he passed under yellow. Bell was summoned to pit lane for a stop-and-go penalty, which dropped him back to 12th position for the finish.
