New accents for successful styling
The Audi A6 set new standards in its market segment when it was launched back in 1997. Above all the saloon's progressive design set a new benchmark which also inspired other manufacturers. A success that was continued without interruption by the Avant models presented ten months later. Once again they confirmed the familiar saying: "Beautiful estate cars are called Avant".
Good reasons therefore for Audi designers to add subtle new highlights only to the successful styling of the A6 models. The most obvious distinguishing feature of the current generation is the new front-end view with double radiator grille. An element that already characterised the eight-cylinder A6 models before - the very model that many design experts praised as being the most attractive member of the A6 family.
The A6 headlights with clear-glass covers are also new. While the contour of the light unit remains unchanged, the light module has increased in diameter from 60 to 70 millimetres - a measure that improves light output by no less than 37 percent.
All Audi A6 models can now be supplied as an option with particularly high-intensity xenon Plus headlights with washers and automatic dynamic headlight range control. Drivers benefit from a considerably increased and evenly illuminated headlight range, especially when main beam is switched on.
The turn indicators now also have clear-glass covers. Good rear visibility is ensured by the door mirror on the passenger's side which has been increased to the size of the driver's mirror. The extended range of wheels offers a new perspective from the side. Customers can choose from a total of eight different 16-inch and 17-inch aluminium wheels and two different winter wheels. For 4.2-litre versions the range includes three 16-inch and 17-inch aluminium wheels and an aluminium winter wheel.
Viewed from the rear, the new design of the rear lights is the first thing that catches the eye: the cylinder-look design of the reversing light, the red cover concealing the turn indicators. The licence-plate bracket in piano finish has also been restyled.
Visible exhaust tailpipes will add a further striking accent to the back of all A6 models in future. A clear indication of the enhanced dynamics of the new A6 generation: their number and arrangement vary depending on engine version.
Customers can choose from a total of 16 exterior colours for the new A6 versions. Five pearl-effect finishes, four metallic colours and two solid paint finishes are new additions to the range.
The A6 also includes numerous improvements that are not visible to the eye. The optimised connection between steering column and body increases the impression of solidity conveyed to the driver. Many details of the body structure have been revised thus increasing body rigidity. Combined with the careful fine tuning of all elasticities in the running gear and the reduction in unsprung masses, ride and vibrational comfort have increased noticeably.
