Individual and sophisticated: Equipment
A new interior concept has been introduced in A6 vehicles for the new model year. In future customers will be able to coordinate their individual colour and fabric requirements even more flexibly. All optional components are colour- matched so that a harmonious overall impression is always created whatever optional extra is selected.
Inside the car too, the Audi designers set themselves the goal of carefully evolving the existing successful concept. Functionality and the visible and palpable quality of the materials used satisfy even higher standards in the new A6.
Newly accentuated details can be found in many areas: the instrument cluster with aluminium rings surrounding the round instruments, for instance. Or the redesigned, illuminated rotary light switch which noticeably improves intuitive operation. Then there is a mirror adjusting switch, now also illuminated, which can be located extremely easily even in the dark. Aluminium trim rings can also be found on the shank of the restyled gear knob and surrounding the shift-lever gaiter.
The new steering wheels provide an eye-catching detail in the A6 cockpit. They are more elaborate in design and have an optimised surface which is more pleasant to grip. And for the first time for the A6, the four-spoke steering wheel is also available as a tiptronic and tiptronic/multi-function version.
Not only passengers with sensitive noses will benefit from the new air quality sensor in the standard-fit automatic air conditioning with sun sensor. The air sensor detects high levels of pollutant in the outside air and automatically prevents it from entering the interior. Once the air quality improves, the sensor automatically reactivates the supply of outside air.
As in the new A4, new-generation radios are now available for the upgraded A6 as well. Customers can choose from the audio systems Chorus (with cassette player), Concert (with CD drive) and Symphony (with CD changer for six CDs and TMC traffic information). All systems are noted for their improved reception, an additional long wave band and an even more user-friendly control concept.
The list of optional extras also includes numerous items that will make journeys in the A6 even more comfortable and convenient - and not only for frequent travellers.
New features in the saloon's luggage compartment include the optional fastening hooks and the shopping net for safely securing bags and transported objects.
Driving safety will benefit from the optional voice control function for the telephone: the driver's hands can both remain on the steering wheel.
The electronic Audi logbook is the first system of its kind worldwide to be offered as a factory-fitted option. Fed with the data from the navigation system, the logbook automatically enters the start and destination of each journey in a memory. Drivers who also use their company car privately will no longer have to reach for pen and paper afterwards to keep a logbook as required by the tax authorities. They have all the necessary data at their fingertips.
Time - and consequently money - can also be saved with the help of what must be the most advanced traffic information system currently available in Germany: Audi telematics. Audi telematics supplies customised information quickly and reliably to help drivers avoid congestion and traffic disruptions.
This system also offers inestimable safety advantages with an emergency call and service call function. In the event of an accident or breakdown, Audi telematics serves as an indispensable means of communicating with those who come to the rescue.
Indeed, the subject of safety has an important role to play in the philosophy of the Audi A6 in general. The best indication of this is the introduction of the SIDEGUARD head airbag system as standard equipment for all new-generation A6 versions.
Audi has also further improved protection against theft on the new A6 models. The optional anti-theft device includes an alarm siren with its own power supply which triggers an alarm when the car battery is removed. The system can only be deactivated by a radio signal from the car key.
