STaSIS Engineering Car Wins Speed World Challenge Touring Car Race from Pole
STaSIS Engineering's Paul Lambert, of Los Gatos, CA, captured his first win in the Sonnen Motorcars/Steven's Creek Audi A4 at this weekend's SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Round Nine race at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca.
Paul Lambert displayed the same home track knowledge of Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca that he did in qualifying by leading the race flag to flag. On his way to victory Paul set a new track record at 1:44.962. Pierre Kleinubing and Peter Cunningham in their Real Time Racing Acura's rounded out the top three.
Paul Lambert said "The Acura's had me under braking. They could close up in hard braking areas but Audi's Quattro allowed me to get a great drive out of the corners. I used every inch of the track to keep ahead of Pierre." The restart after a full course caution caused some nervousness as Paul's lead at Mid Ohio had been lost in a similar situation. "The first two laps after the restart were tough, but with pressure coming from behind Pierre made a mistake in turn three giving me enough room to build a gap." The Sonnen Motorcars/Steven's Creek Audi was able to pull a gap over Kleinubing of 1.5 seconds, and maintain it to the checkered flag.
This victory shows the viability of a package STaSIS has been working on for over a year. With two poles and this win they are on track to be a championship contender for 2003. STaSIS plans to campaign two cars next year with support from local Audi dealers.
This race would not of taken place without the support of Rod Bymaster of Audi North America, Sonnen Motorcars, Steven's Creek Audi, Design It Prototype, and Audiworld.com.
