LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 For the first time in its 18-year history, AFI FEST -- The AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival -- has crafted a sponsorship agreement that redrafts the nomenclature of the film festival. Audi, a leading manufacturer of performance-oriented luxury vehicles, has assumed the role of presenting sponsor, which effectively changes the November Festival's name to AFI FEST 2004 presented by Audi.

"We are proud to be affiliated with AFI and the AFI FEST as we share the common goals of innovation and excellence," said Stephen Berkov, Director of Marketing, Audi of America, Inc. "Clearly AFI is a leading light in moving movies and television forward and at Audi we believe it is always greater to lead than follow. Never follow."

AFI FEST presented by Audi is the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles and one of the most influential film festivals in North America. A program of the American Film Institute, the Festival features an International Competition of features, documentaries and shorts, as well as regional showcases of international cinema, including Asian New Classics, the European Film Showcase, Latin Cinema Series, Made in Germany and American Directions. AFI FEST 2004 presented by Audi (November 4 - 14) will also continue its traditions of Red Carpet Galas, as well as the highly anticipated Tribute and Retrospective.

"Audi has an established reputation as a leader and innovator in the world of high-performance, luxury automobiles," commented AFI's Director and CEO Jean Picker Firstenberg. "AFI's film festival is an established leader and innovator in the world of international cinema. It's a perfect fit, and we're just thrilled."

Beginning this year, AFI FEST 2004 presented by Audi (November 4 - 14) and the 2004 American Film Market (November 3 - 10) have established a strategic alliance creating a formidable festival/market combination -- the only one of its kind in North America -- which will dramatically deepen the well of cultural and commercial possibilities for participants at both events.

The pact between Audi and AFI also encompasses AFI's extended year-round film programming activities at ArcLight Hollywood. This weekly program of film series and special events will now be known as AFI AT ARCLIGHT presented by Audi.
