Audi to Supply Retrofit Option for Particulate Filter in Future
From this autumn, Audi will be supplying a retrofit option for particulate filter systems for vehicles that hitherto satisfy the Euro 2, Euro 3 or Euro 4 emissions standard.
As matters stand, virtually all Audi models with diesel engines have satisfied what is currently the most stringent emission standard (Euro 4) for more than two years. Unlike its competitors, Audi achieves this exclusively through internal engine modifications, as a result of which all emissions are cut simultaneously, in other words nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons as well as particulates. The particulate emissions of Audi vehicles have been cut by 91 percent since 1990.
Audi already supplies a particulate filter for the A4, A6 and A8 car lines. It is gradually extending its range to include all model series and engines. In addition, all A8, A6 and A4 versions with a V6 engine are to be prepared ex works for retrofitting a particulate filter. This will then make it easy for the customer to have the filter installed at a later date.
Audi is focusing on second-generation filtration technology for these diesel particulate filters. They operate without additives and represent an intelligent, user-friendly solution thanks to their regenerative control.
