  • From Mallorca to holidays at home
  • 22 days until the start of the 2006 DTM

Two of the Audi DTM works drivers spent the past few days in Florida – not as holidaymakers, though, but “on duty” for Audi in the 12-Hour Race at Sebring (USA). Tom Kristensen drove one of the two new Audi R10 TDI cars. DTM rookie Vanina Ickx travelled to Sebring to familiarise herself with the Audi squad and their way of working.

Yet as a holiday destination Florida is not on the Audi drivers’ wish lists. Christian Abt, for example, prefers relaxing in Mallorca. Tom Kristensen enjoys Lanzarote in wintertime where he stays in shape riding his racing bicycle. Martin Tomczyk, as well, prefers places where the weather is warm in winter. ”As a racer I hardly have any time for holidays in the summer, during the season,” he says. Vanina Ickx and Pierre Kaffer, on the other hand, enjoy skiing in the winter. Frank Stippler is very fond of Italy.

Heinz-Harald and Tanja Frentzen have changed their “holiday philosophy” in recent years.”We’ve stopped going to places where there is a lot of ‘action.’ Instead we spend our holidays where the children can have fun,”says “HHF.” Ex-DTM Champion Mattias Ekström, Pierre Kaffer and Timo Scheider all live around Lake Constance and prefer spending their holidays at home. “There, I can do all the things I enjoy,” says Mattias Ekström. “Let’s face it, I do enough travelling in my job.” To the DTM tests at Brands Hatch (England), for example, where he will be joined by Tom Kristensen and Vanina Ickx arriving from Florida.
