Monterey, California (October 26, 2006) STaSIS Motorsports finished the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car 2006 season at Laguna Seca bringing Audi home 3rd in the manufacturer’s championship. The 2006 SPEED World Challenge Touring Car season was the best ever for STaSIS Motorsports putting cars in the top 10 in eight races, top 5 in seven races, on the podium in four races and winning three races. Team owner Paul Lambert was understandably pleased, “I’m really proud of our team from crew chief to car chief to mechanic, everyone played their part to make this a great season.”

In the final race of the season Chip Herr drove his #17 Clear Capital/STaSIS Audi A4 to 5th place from 10th on the starting grid. The performance earned Herr 3rd in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car driver’s championship. For the year Herr had seven top 10 finishes, six top 5 finishes, four podium finishes and three wins making him the winningest driver in the series this year. Reflecting on the year Herr said, “It has been a fantastic year. I can’t thank the whole STaSIS team enough, everyone contributed to this successful season. I can’t wait until next year.”

Jeff Courtney qualified 14th, but had a rough race when his spectacular Quattro propelled standing start caused a mechanical failure (a motor mount whose design will be changed next season) forcing him to retire early for the first time this season. However, Courtney’s cushion built up throughout the season in the Piloti SPEED Touring Car Rookie of the Year standings held up at Laguna Seca. Courtney in his #99 Kenda/MPI Coin/Karavan Trailer/STaSIS Audi A4 was also 10th in the driver’s championship. Courtney had four top 10 finishes and one top 5 finish this year.

“Fast” Freddy Baker in the #18 STaSIS Fred Baker Audi/STaSIS Audi A4 was forced to retire early by a mechanical issue after a dramatic trip through the gravel trap due to an on track incident. Baker had one top 10 finish in 2006.

The 2006 SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway will be aired on SPEED Saturday, October 28th at 1:00PM Eastern.
