Black out grille & Painted Mirrors We wanted to add some looks to the Project B7A4 in addition to the performance. We really like the look of blacked out chrome on some vehicles and decided to go that direction with the project B7 A4's grille and mirrors. Since the project B7 A4 is a standard A4, the only optional grille that will fit is the grille from the A4 DTM factory bumper, known in the US as the 25th Anniversary S4 grille. This grille is available through any Audi dealer parts department in both chrome and black. For the project B7 A4 we ordered the blackout grille and the blackout filler plate. To install the grille, the front bumper cover must be removed. Once the bumper is removed there are several screws holding the grille in place. In all, we were able to remove the bumper, install the new grille, and re-install the bumper within a couple of hours. The filler plate is simply held on by 6 screws and is a quick replacement for the stock one. Painted Mirrors In addition to the blacked out grille, we chose to paint the mirrors black on the project B7 A4 rather than to go with the more widely chosen option of installing the S4 aluminum look mirrors. This was one of the more simple modifications since all that was required was to remove the mirror housings, have them painted, then re-install them.
World of Speed 2006 Update We had been preparing the car to run in the 150 Club at the 2006 World of Speed, but unfortunately the event was rained out after Day 1. The good news is that Project B7 A4, with Carol Stahmann driving, is the first and only A4 to make the 130 Club at Bonneville. The 130 Club requires the driver to make two runs from a standing start and attain 130 mph before the 1 mile mark - called the Standing Mile by some. Carol, driving the Project B7A4 attained 136.909 mph on her first run and 135.569 mph on her second run. Great performance from an A4! We'll have to wait until 2007 to try for the 150 Club.
