LLTek A4 Sport Mirrors By: Brian K. Won Email: brian.won@chase.com (Nov-99) Make & model of car the product was used on: 99 A4 1.8TQM Product Description: Silver sport M3-like mirrors prepainted to match factory silver color I decided to change the appearance of my A4 by adding LLTek's sport mirrors to my car. Upon ordering these things, I was notified that they were in stock, and they were ready to be shipped out the same day. A few days after my order was placed, I called back and told them that my mirrors have not yet arrived and that I would like access to the tracking number of the package they were shipping to me. After a little investigation on llteks behalf, they notified me that my package had not been shipped yet. The mirrors had to be returned to the painter for they were not up to par with LLTek's paint specs. "Groovy" I thought.. These mirrors must be of the highest caliber if LLTek decided to send em back to be repainted... After another 2 weeks, i finally received my box in the mail. The mirrors were packaged in meager bubble wrap, and the box was torn. Out of the tear on the box I saw that one edge of the mirror was hanging out, and was scratched.. not badly, for a little touch up paint took care of the chip. But what disappointed me was the "waves" in the paint of these mirrors! My mirrors would have greatly benefited from some additional wet sanding and a couple more layers of paint! I was not happy with my product, but since I waited for so long for these mirrors, I decided to install them regardless. Over the phone they had informed me that installation was a 10 minute per side affair. NOT TRUE! It took me over an hour to replace the passenger side mirror! The problems I encountered were with the plug, and the foam backing on both sides of the mirror. I had to remove my door panel to gain full access to the plug, which LLtek informed me that I did not have to do. After installing the mirror, getting the foam back into place was much harder than I initially thought it would be. I had to custom cut most of the foam into little bits and stuff it back in. What a nightmare! The drivers side went a little more smoothly, and I found a new trick in putting the foam back in.. FREEZE IT!. I wrapped the foam tightly with rubber bands and tried to form it back to the triangular shape in order for it to fit properly, then I froze it overnight in the freezer..as it started to defrost, I molded it to fit within the gaps. Right now im experiencing wind noise from my passenger side mirror. Since this, I've heard that LLTek has found a new painter for their products. I hope this is true, and I hope that what I went through does not happen to anyone else. $500 is not a price you want to pay for shoddy workmanship. |
