Comments: I researched chips long and hard prior to buying my 1999.5 A4 1.8Tq. The Garrett chip, I decided was definately the best. I was lucky enough to get to know the Brian Ettl of EUROTECH Atlanta (a VW and Audi tuner in Atlanta 770-794-7240). I was able to first hand see Golf's GTi VR6, Passats with the 1.8T (same as the A4 1.8T). The Garrett Chipped Passat had only a K&N filter in addittion to the chip. It was incredible.

I had My A4 chipped at 1200 miles and now have 4200 miles on the car. The difference in incredible. It is definately quicker than the A4 2.8!!!! The stock Golf GTi VR6 no longer blows me off.

Daily driving feels better in traffic. But when you stomp it, swoosh from about 2000 rpm, it's gone like a rocket.

Be careful though, the RPMs climb really fast. In first and second the redline comes up fast. I wish it had the taller gears of the 2.8. Also you will get strange looks from BMW 328i, Mustang GT, and Camaro drivers. While the Mustang's especially are smoking tires and trying to get traction, you'll be long gone, with the AC running and two adults in the car. I had to show off to the wife and justify spending $418. Now, instead of hearing her complain about the money, it's "honey can I drive the A4 today?".
