Product Description: 1.0 bar upgrade chip and air filter

It was not long after I took delivery of my new A4 1.8TQ that I began investigating the many ECU "hop up" chips available. After comparing the dyno charts I decided on the Wetterauer. I ordered the chip and the companion Ram Air Filter by phone and was pleasantly suprised at the knowledge and friendliness of Kelly Kay.

The ECU arrived and I promptly installed it and the filter, about a 1 hour job.

When I took my first drive I could do nothing but say "WOW". What a difference. Low end, high end acceleration have improved dramatically with no changes in driveability in traffic etc. Passing at Freeway speeds is a blast.

Best $500.00 I ever spent on a car.

I've had the Wetteraur chip for almost 2 years now and still can't get enough.  Initially I was surprised how much quicker my stock 1.8T felt as compared to it's 0-60 times.  After sending the ECU to Wetteraur for the upgrade and a quick and easy installation I was off and running.  All chips will transform your car into a new beast and this was no exception.  You have enough torque to be pinned to the seat and riding the boost curve is very addicting. In the snow you can now feel like your favorite World Rally car driver.  Just don't end up in a ditch.  The service from Wetteraur was excellent.  My only dislike was the Ram-air filter which came with the chip.  It was very "gooey", and I  finally tossed it and went with a K&N filter.  A note to anyone swapping air filters, wear gloves or you WILL cut your hands on the turbo heat shielding before you know it.  If you have a 1.8T you have to go for the chip and you won't regret it.

Modern cars have computer controlled fuel injection, ignition timing, and in the case of a turbocharged vehicle, boost control.  Chip-tuning is the optimization of these parameters for increased engine power.

Coming from a '97 GTI-VR6, the power in my Audi A4 1.8t seemed... well, lacking somewhat.  I drove the Audi for 5 months with its adequate power, but I always missing my GTI's power.

I came across a Wetterauer chip in the classifieds.  The chip was for the Wetterauer socket-modified ECU.  I purchased the chip, and sent my ECU to Wetterauer to be "socketed".  They suggested that I sent my newly purchased chip also, so they could update it to the latest firmware.

When I received the ECU back from them, my factory chip was in its own module and the performance chip was in the socket in the ECU.

I put the ECU back into the car.  I followed the instructions to replace the ecu, and turn the key to the "on" position for 3 minutes (for everything to sync up).

I started the car and noticed I needed gas, so I figured I would take it easy on it.  From my house to the gas station, to give the car ample time to warm up (It was sitting for 2 days in the sub 30F range)

Well as I started up the hill from my house, (I typically bring the rpms to 2500-3000 range before I shift to second) the car started to "take off" at 2200 rpm range, which quickly prompted me to let off and feather touch the gas as to not let the turbo spool.

After I got the gas, I decided it was time to put it through its paces. So up the the highway onramp I went.  And went I did.  My honest first thought was "Holy S***, is this the same car?"  No more running out of breath in 4th and 5th.  Just loads more power at all RPMS.

My Audi previously with 2-3+ passengers had two speeds, slow and stop -- Now it has enough torque to take us up hills, without the need to rev it high.

Compared to how mild the car was, just push the accelerator in any gear and... buh-bye!  And for my previous GTI, well... it was nice... BUT NOT THIS NICE!

No regrets at all... BUH-BYE!

I graduated college in 98 and decided to buy a new car. Having friends in the automotive industry helps and I got a great deal on a 99 Contour SVT.  I loved the power and speed of this car, but after a year and a half in the cockpit of a Contour I needed something better.  I looked at both the A4 and the 323 and after test driving both and reading this web site I decided to by the A4.

I felt that I had made a trade-off in speed to be able to surround myself in the cabin of the A4.  This was proven wrong to me the instant I tried out my new chip from Wetteraeur.  Torque comes on strong at
about 2500 RPM and it doesn't want to stop until about 6000 RPM.  I raced a buddy of mine (I know, very irresponsible, but I had to know!) with a SVT Contour and walked him off the line.  There is always power available and passing in 5th gear is never a problem.  I still have to see what happens to the durability of the engine, as I have only had the chip for a month now.

The customer service at Wetteraeur is second to none.  Fed-ex screwed up my shipment on the way there and Kelly made sure I have my computer back in a very short amount of time.  I would classify myself as a very satisfied customer.

This product married to a K&N filter only provided a mild increase in torque.  As I expected when purchasing the chip, the money spent on it was barely worth the performance increase.  My car is low mileage and is in perfect running order, I have no idea how these other guys can say that the performance increase is substantial.  They are dreamers.

NO IDEA where that last guy was coming from.  While I have no clue how the Wett stacks up to the current favorites -- after all, the Wett was the chip du jour in 98! -- I couldn't imagine driving without this
installed.  To say that there was no performance increase is bizarre.  Since the day I put it in, this thing pushes hard -- HUGELY noticeably from stock. The only quibbles:  seems to lose some steam in rainy conditions and my wife swears that it makes her nauseous.  Oh well...
