H&R Ultra Performance Coilovers By: Dustin Davino Email: Dustysa4@aol.com (Sep-01) Make & model of car the product was used on:2001 A4 1.8TQM Product Description: H&R Ultra Performance Coilovers. These allow a greater drop(1" - 3" F&R) over regular coilovers and provide a stiffer ride. Spring rates are: F-595, R-610. The coilovers were purchased through a group purchase, otherwise they would have been very costly in my opinion. When I took them in to have them installed it took about 4 hours. My first impressions were that they were stiffer than stock non-sport, but the road I was on didn't allow me to see exactly how stiff. Once I left the shop and got on the free way I was amazed at how stiff the ride was. A slight touch on the wheel and your changing lanes. You feel every separation in the road and bumps are very rough too. Squatting during launches and diving during braking are almost totally eliminated. Corners are amazing as well. You sit very flat through turns and any leaning I am sure is mostly due to the 15" tires I am still riding on. I had a chance to compare these coilovers to the regular H&R coilovers on an S4. The regulars are pretty stiff, but the ride is not as bumpy as mine. From what I could tell they rode really well, without the harshness, but this was just in a mall parking lot. My suggestions to anyone wanting a firmer handling ride, that is not to harsh on the backside is to go with the regular H&R's. If you think that you can handle a little rougher ride and really want them for track usage then you might want to go with the Ultra Performance coilovers, but buyer beware that if you live in the city where there are rough roads and constant construction that these coilovers are not very practicle. You will hear every bump inside your car and you will feel them in your back too. |
